Gray is s a color that doesn’t evoke emotions. So it makes it a safer color to use for the builders and people who were either indecisive or afraid of colors.
Covid changed this. In 2020, when most people were locked in their homes, they realized they wanted happier homes and with more personality.
When we were interviewed by The Seattle Times at the end of 2020 about 2021 Design Trends, we said it then that bold jeweled colors are going to be a big thing in every aspect of interior design. It was a trend that started in 2020 and we could see it was going to go even bigger in 2021. This is a trend that is still going strong.
We also saw then and still see how our own interior design clients wanted/want to incorporate and infuse rich colors into their homes. It has been an exciting paradigm shift.
Saying this, I want to emphasize that when it comes to selling homes, lighter and warmer neutral earth tones are still the way to go. Knowledgeable home stagers know how to incorporate rich colors through their selection of accessories and accent pieces, keeping the homes aligned with this trend and appealing to buyers.
If you still want to use gray, go for warmer grays with gold, red, brown/beige undertones.
Have fun with colors.
