Today I participated in Deloitte's Impact Day here in the US, supporting Smiles from Sarah. This non-profit aims to bring smiles and healing to children by expanding the impact and reach of child life programs and therapeutic play in hospitals. Therapeutic play serves a vital function in children’s medical care, allowing child life specialists to give children tools to develop, cope, and communicate when confronted with illness, injury, or disability. It can be the bandage to bind a broken spirit or the pill to alleviate anxiety and pain. We built 370 therapeutic play kits, film play kit assembly tutorials, and test play kits for children's hospitals in the Washington DC metro area. Today we wear RED in honor of Heart Month! Join the impact! Health Evolve #GoesRed in support of the American Heart Association. We are on a campaign for the entire month of February to raise awareness and garner support. Did you know that Black Americans have the highest incidence of cardiac arrest outside of the hospital and are significantly less likely to survive? Here are a few key facts: 🌟 Cardiac arrest occurs when there is an electrical malfunction in the heart’s rhythm that results in a loss of blood flow to the heart, lungs, brain, and other organs. About 70% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen in the home. Learning CPR can save the life of someone you know and love. 🌟 A staggering 90% of people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital setting do not survive. However, CPR, especially if performed immediately, can double, or triple a cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival. 🌟 Unfortunately, approximately 40% of people who experience an out- of- hospital cardiac arrest receive CPR before professional help arrives. In some communities, this number is even higher. For Heart Month, we want every family and home to have someone who knows CPR. We invite you to join our impact work by making a donation at https://lnkd.in/ezQJBN3S. You can also find a CPR class at heart.org/nation. #heartmonth #communityimpact #gored

Welcome to our 'Lungevity' team Summer Scamper page! On June 23, we are participating in Summer Scamper to support children and families at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford! Together, we’ll ensure kids in our community and beyond receive the life-changing care they need. When you support our Summer Scamper team, your gift: -Guarantees that every child who comes through our hospital’s doors has access to expert care. We never turn away a child in need due to their family’s financial circumstances. -Supports groundbreaking research to find better treatments and cures for children facing serious illnesses. Your contribution empowers researchers and clinicians to make discoveries that improve children's health. -Provides patients with child-centered, compassionate care that allows them to still be kids—even while they're in the hospital. Every dollar you give will make a difference: -$30 can provide a coping kit for a child facing a difficult procedure. -$60 can provide a week of antibiotics for the Teen Health Van. -$110 can provide a child with a session of pain management services to supplement medication. -$525 can cover the cost of two comprehensive blood tests. https://lnkd.in/gW2kY53P

Early Detection of Vision Impairments in Children (EDVI) Act Early intervention is a critical pillar of our Journey of Care™ at Beyond Blindness. We are excited to celebrate the introduction of a landmark bill in the U.S. House of Representatives that will establish grants for states and communities to improve children's vision and eye health through a coordinated system of care. Called the Early Detection of Vision Impairments in Children (EDVI) Act, it aims to ensure all children will receive screening and care that will help overcome any obstacles and delays caused by a visual impairment. While there are several public health programs that offer support for other areas of pediatric health, this will be the first federally funded program addressing vision and equitable eye care for children. As a leader in early intervention for Orange County children with visual impairments and other disabilities, we believe this is an important step forward in delivering quality care to every family in need. It will not only provide more opportunities for early detection of vision concerns, but also reduce disparities in eye health and remove barriers to care that will put infants and toddlers on the path to achieving their fullest potential. For more information about Beyond Blindness' early intervention services, visit https://lnkd.in/gAZQ5ve4 or email Irene Takahashi at irene.takahashi@beyondblindness.org. #BeyondBlindness #OCNonprofit #EarlyDetection #EDVIAct

Moving into a senior care community doesn’t have to be a traumatic experience for couples. Many senior care communities allow couples to live together while taking the burden of the caregiving off the spouse. Using Cornell’s InFORM™ I A Mobile Nurse Call system you can create unique care plans for couples. In addition to collecting actionable data, the InFORM™ I A Mobile Nurse Call system offers heightened security through a video doorbell and enhanced staff communication features, including text and calling, and much more. With maternal mortality/morbidity and newborn death rates on the rise in the United States, how do we make an impact as one individual nurse leader? I’m very excited to share that I completed the Respectful, Equitable Care Certification by the Family to Family Support Network. Anti-racism, unique families, LGBTQIA+, substance use disorder, and trauma-informed care are all covered under one amazing certification. However, after reflecting on the whole training, I realized this certification focuses on an overarching theme of interacting respectfully and LISTENING to your patients...ALL of your patients. If we focus on respectful care, that is equitable for our more vulnerable populations, and listen and bring our patients into a shared-decision making model…maybe that’s when we can truly start to turn the dial on our unacceptable maternal & newborn statistics in this country.
