PR or Marketing? I’m in PR and communications so far for more than 14 years. Today I aim to broaden up the topic on what PR is about and to eliminate the longstanding conflict between PR and Marketing. The ongoing power struggle between PR professionals and marketers has persisted, each defending their theory of which sphere takes precedence. While the chicken or the egg theory is often used to determine the lead between PR and marketing, I firmly believe that these two areas are complementary today. Their importance cannot be overstated or diminished in comparison with each other. PR forms the foundation on which the brand's value rests, understanding its distinctions, and the overall communication direction—answering why our company exists, its differentiation, and the essence of its contribution to the public or business segment. PR serves as an easel for the overall picture, essential for any campaign or message launch. Marketing, on the other hand, is a key tool for detailing and selling the picture to the intended audience. PR without marketing may be perceived as an empty strategic manuscript, as the value of PR, though significant, is challenging to quantify with only qualitative indicators. While PR defines public pain points and builds the "communication dome," marketing targets the audience and creates paths to reach them. PR contributes to global business development by establishing connections and partnerships, while marketing addresses operational needs like sales, response generation, and lead conversion. In an era where collaboration replaces direct competition, PR and marketing should work together, not separately. Cheers to both PR and marketing! #pr #marketing #digital #promotion #publicrelations

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠? Having worked in both Public Relations (PR) and marketing roles over the years, I'm often asked, 'What's the difference between PR and marketing?' Five years ago, I pivoted from marketing to PR, which has helped me grasp the differences between these 2 disciplines. 𝐏𝐑 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲'𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬, 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬, 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡, 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬, 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠-𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠. For those working in PR and marketing, this is common knowledge. But to those who haven't lived "a day in the life" in PR and marketing, some of this might come as a surprise. 𝐏𝐑 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲'𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬. PR delivers instant attention (such as through media coverage), but without marketing's strategic backbone, it won’t last. Conversely, marketing without PR can miss the emotional connection that resonates with people. The magic happens when they're combined. 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐑 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬, 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬. Marketing brings the data and insights, while PR adds storytelling and genuine engagement. By understanding how PR and marketing complement each other, companies can smoothly and effectively navigate the changing world of customer engagement. 𝐓𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐩: 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝, 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐏𝐑 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 (𝐛𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭, 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞). Understand this to help you and your company be successful. If you like this, please reshare it. #PR #Publicrelations #Marketing #Communication

B2B tech PR isn't just about announcing your latest product features. B2B tech PR isn't just about getting your name in the news. B2B tech PR isn't just about creating content. B2B tech PR isn't just about attracting investors or customers. It's a strategic blend of all of the above and more. It's about executing a communication strategy that drives business growth. It's about delivering a narrative that captures the attention of the target audience. It's about building a strong brand reputation that differentiates you from the competition. So the next time someone tells you that PR isn't a crucial part of a company's marketing strategy, challenge their thinking.
