This is a great innovation, and will help many, but it leaves many out in the cold. Those without access to smart phones or who may struggle with new tech won't benefit from this. The elderly, economically disadvantaged, and those in low or no tech environments (eg. workers who cannot access their phones on shift, people without access to wifi, etc.), and young children, among others, won't have access to this information. Most people do not have the time to scan new items as they move through their day, let alone sort, store, and track down supplemental recycling sites. Moving towards standardization in materials and recycling systems, and clearer messaging would have wider benefit to the general public. https://lnkd.in/e8eitTvR

At CES 2024, major technology companies showed a significant shift towards more sustainability. Using recycled materials in products and supporting longer device lifespans. Google's endorsement of the Right to Repair movement and its commitment to provide seven years of software updates for the Pixel 8 series reflects a growing industry focus on reducing electronic waste. Additionally, over 70% of companies surveyed are moving beyond initial discussions of sustainability, now striving to make tangible progress in their environmental impact, focusing on material reuse and extended product lifespans. https://lnkd.in/gEJvusmS

🫰🏼Google is paving the way for sustainability in tech! 🧪 Its focus on incorporating recycled materials in its hardware design not only supports its sustainability commitments but also invites investments leading to innovation. 📒 And gatekeeping is not something google is known for, as it is ready to release their 70-page guide detailing how it redesigned packaging without plastic to help other companies. ⬆️ The new paper-based packaging is likely more expensive than plastic since they are produced at a different scale. However, the first version tends to be on the higher side! 🍎 Brands like Apple have also incorporated sustainable plastic free packaging by using fibre based packaging. 😶 However, Apple excludes adhesives, inks and coatings from its plastic calculations! 📲 Discover over 120 planet-friendly brands at sortin.in and get rewarded for each gram of CO2 emissions saved!

When it comes to sustainable packaging innovation and strategy, many companies shelter the “how to” behind their innovations to help maintain a competitive advantage in the marketplace . . . but not Google. Google reached its goal of removing plastics from its suite of “consumer electronics packaging” six months before its 2025 goal, based on a pledge made in October of 2020. As Google reached its goal early, David Bourne, Sustainability Strategy lead for Google, announced at Circularity 24 that they will be publishing a 70-page guide this June so other companies can see how it was done! Bourne spoke at a GreenBiz Group event (hosts of Circularity 24) where he stated: “You might think it’s sort of strange to enable other companies, potentially to enable other competitors, but our point of view on sustainability is that it really should be a collaborative endeavor. Innovation should be shared in sustainability, because if we sincerely want to create a sustainable future, then just a handful of companies being more sustainable isn’t going to achieve that.” Read more about Google’s proposed sustainable packaging guide and their journey to remove plastics from consumer electronics packaging here: https://bit.ly/4b1RoQM #sustainablepackaging #circulareconomy #packaging #packagingdesign #google #plastic

“WTF is the Circular Economy?” I’ve heard this a lot lately as we engage with more people around what we’re doing. So here are 200 odd words of helpful explanation and a good dose of my own opinion. I'm not all that surprised at the question to be honest. Because... Firstly, it sounds suspiciously like a buzzword 🤨. Part of the crowded and vague space around all-things-green (yes, that’s an attempt not to say the s-word). But the circular economy is anything but. It’s grounded in a simple economic principle that goes far beyond trend, rethinking how we use resource to keep value in the system longer. It is a world designed for multiple users, resale, and repurpose rather than the linear 'make-take-dispose' model. It’s intelligent and innovative. Secondly, we’re all at it. Selling our stuff, composting, buying second-hand, renting. That's all circularity. So the ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ bit isn’t new, but the promise extends to much further horizons. Imagine a near future where we have legal rights to repair our gadgets, apps help us share more without money, on-demand manufacturing, and buildings that adapt over time. Businesses and individuals are embracing how cool these opportunities could be, shifting to circular thinking. It also helps that we’re eyeing billions in market opportunity (ask McKinsey, they’ve got some delightful data on this). Lastly – once you get it – it just makes sense. The circular economy is less about ‘doing the right thing’ and much, much more about clever, cool solutions that keep value in the system for longer, or even forever. The Circular Economy is smart, creative thinking and it's changing how we live and do business. 😎✨ #CircularEconomy #Circularity #TheFutureIsCircular #Possibility #DeignThinking #InnovativeThinking

As we all become more concerned about preserving our planet for future generations, enterprises around the world are looking for ways they can be part of the solution. One of the biggest opportunities to make a difference is in the production and recycling of IT hardware. Currently, most organizations recycle only a fraction of their hardware. That means more resources must be taken from the earth and more energy consumed to refine those resources. Lenovo is leading the charge to create a circular economy. This not only involves recycling devices, but also designing them to last longer and operate more efficiently. It’s an ambitious initiative, but one we must undertake for the future of our Earth.

2wBy far the worst customer service I have ever received in my life. My package was stolen by the UPS delivery person, and not only does BESTBUY not take responsibility for my refund, but they also do not respond to UPS, who agree with me just by looking at the delivery photo. Now I am in a constant battle with this subpar company to get my money back.
