In May, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Battelle Memorial Institute. Battelle is a powerhouse of innovation and technological advancement, and my visit left me in absolute awe of what this institution represents. After attending the #CelebrationOfSolvers award dinner, where I was honored to receive Battelle's Brookhaven National Laboratory Inventor of the Year award, my wife Marina Sorokina and I decided to go to a nearby bar. To our surprise, we encountered a lively group of Battelle employees celebrating their achievements, and they were happy to chat with us. One described Battelle as "the greatest company that almost nobody has heard about," a sentiment that truly encapsulates its essence. Despite working in a lab managed by Battelle, I was unaware of this company's vast impact on technologies that touch our everyday lives and the great research they do. Founded in 1929, Battelle operates as a charitable trust and is the "world's largest independent non-profit research and development organization". They manage or co-manage many national laboratories and contribute to various fields such as health, security, and the environment. Some of Battelle's groundbreaking developments include the Xerox copier and cruise control for automobiles. These innovations are just some examples of how Battelle’s research and development have significantly impacted our daily lives. My visit included a great tour by Curt Flemming and engaging discussions with Battelle's researchers and leadership, which deepened my respect for this institution. I am grateful for the experience and the stimulating conversations with many interesting people, including Amy Heintz, Kavitha Dasu, Kurtis Wickey, Slawek Winecki, Mark Peters, @MattVaughan, Brian Taylor, Anthony Crawford, Eric Kozubal, John Bobbitt, and others. Thank you 🙏, Battelle, for the honor and for your commitment to making the world a better place. #Innovation #Science #Technology #Battelle #BrookhavenLab #CelebrationOfSolvers
