How do we find wellness in the midst of disease? This is not an easy question to answer, at least not one that I can add anything insightful, as I think compassion is more in order. Interestingly enough this question often reminds me of how children living with serious diagnosis live their lives in the present, having that diagnosis be part of their lives and implementing tools to assist in the preservation of quality. They accepted it as an addition to their daily lives and become skilled at advocacy, negotiation and execution of management. Similarly, I think wellness should be approach in the same manner. Does it become a chore? yes. Does it get easier? yes! Now bringing this conversation to weight loss, obesity as a diagnosis is quite hard to hear. We struggle because we find the task of losing weight so overwhelming that we suffer through process. The task being so vast and complicated! So many things will change or must change (or so we think). Finding joy, happiness and purpose in each of our days (presence) can certainly add wellness to our lives.
