Ah, memories! Nostalgia can be a powerful trigger, and it takes me back to the roots of my leadership journey. 🌟 Being part of a self-made alumni group has been a transformative experience, and it's more than just reminiscing. It's about reflecting on the invaluable lessons that have shaped my approach to leadership. 💼
One of the standout takeaways from this incredible journey is the art of leadership itself. 🚀 Our coaches and mentors, who guided us on this path, instilled the essence of leadership not as a hierarchical position, but as a state of mind. They encouraged us to cultivate and refine our unique leadership styles. It was an epiphany that I carried forward, trying my hand at it, with varying degrees of success, and later, imparting it to the teams I've had the privilege to be a part of. 👥
What struck me the most during this journey is the realization that leadership doesn't always demand you to lead from the front or bear the most senior title in the room. The most profound example I can recall from my past is my experience as the "note taker" during meetings back in my IBM days. 📝 It may sound like a minor role, but it was so much more. It gave me a deeper understanding of the subjects discussed, as I had to pay keen attention to capture the essence. This, in turn, equipped me to ask insightful and probing questions. Sometimes, leadership is about enhancing your understanding, so you can empower the team better. 🧠💡

📖 Where 1801 began…(spoiler alert, it wasn’t in 1801!) 📖 (Part 1/2)
Since 2012, The 1801 Network has been the platform for reuniting our Co-founders with their university friends, empowering them to become future leaders 🚀. Over these 11 years, our focus has been on leadership development, starting with self-leadership, the essential foundation for leading others and in business.
Want to know where we came up with the name?
It all started with our first 1801 leadership development weekend in 2012 at a French Manoir built in, you guessed it, 1801. We lacked any more creative naming ideas, and so it stuck. It's pronounced just like the year, a nod to those French origins 🥐.
Shoutout to some of the #The1801Network - Devon Boyd, Lewis Martin, Declan Cornelius, Harry Tinson, Clare Turner, and of course Ryan Kelly & Connor Metcalf
