ASM President & CEO Ron Bension talks amenities, hospitality, and what makes Thunder Ridge Nature Arena the most beautiful outdoor amphitheater to see a show. The venue hosted the second show of its inaugural season, Chris Stapleton, this past week. "Thunder Ridge Nature Arena has two major features that significantly differentiate it from not only other venues in its immediate market but from most other venues in the world: the venue’s remarkable setting and matching fan/artist experiences, which are not like anything else on earth."

Growing one of the best UK festivals | CEO & Co-Founder @ Wellnergy Festival | Serial Brand Builder: 15 brands built in 15 years
Fyre Festival or Woodstock 99' — some of the most disastrous festivals, ever. I've had a fair amount of people ask me if that put me off from creating a festival brand. The answer is, no. If anything, it probably encouraged me more! 😅 The difference between those festivals and Wellnergy is simple: 👉 They focused on bringing in revenue and cutting costs. 👉 Whereas we focus on looking after our people, which has to come first. Always. From day one, I've always championed putting your people first with every brand I've created. When you look after your staff, they in turn will look after your customers and help provide a fantastic customer experience. This results in: 🌟 All-round better vibes 🌟 Increased word of mouth 🌟 Happy (and loyal) customers 🌟 Better business performance and brand reputation Moral of the story here? Prioritise your people and don't take shortcuts. There is no shortcut to success 🔥

It's that time of the week again.. Fun Fact Friday! 💡 Or should I say.. Fun Fail Friday 😆 Today we are going to explore some of the biggest fails in events history. Do you remember the time when presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the wrong winner for Best Picture at the 2017 Academy Awards? 🫣 Or the time Woodstock '99 turned into a chaotic nightmare due to poor planning, exorbitant food prices, and scorching heat? 🔥 These are just some of the examples from high profile big scale events that went wrong due to poor event management.. These epic events fails just show how incredibly important it is to have impeccable attention to detail and proper risk management plans in place when organising events. As reported last week, the NZIFF Whānau Mārama: New Zealand has been scaled back in 2024 and is currently confirmed for just Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. While this is not an ideal outcome for those of us outside these regions, it's an unfortunate sign of the times. Cinema and the Arts, in general, have faced an uphill battle since Covid-19, with many cinemas seeing an average net loss of 20% in gross revenue since the heady days of 2017/18 &19. The festival itself has seen significant declines in revenue due to the loss of key sponsors and runs on limited grant funding. As a not-for-profit trust, it has had to cut its cloth, but losing a key event like this for the cinemas that screen this content can be the difference between keeping the lights on and closing up for good. The festival brings additional economic benefits that spreads beyond the walls of the cinemas and out to the local communities and across industries such as accommodation providers, hospitality venues, transportation providers, and tourism operators. Some have taken the announcement of the loss of the festival as an opportunity to put the boot in or play politics, but now is not the time for finger-pointing but a time for positive action. As an owner of one of the locations outside the main four centers that host the festival, we have contacted the NZIFF and pledged our support to assist where we can in an effort to open the door to the festival locations being widened to some additional larger rural locations around NZ. We will be putting our money where our mouths are and working with key partners in our local community in an effort to create a positive grassroots campaign that not only supports the NZIFF in 2024 but hopefully in the years to come. This is not to say we will be successful, but we are hopeful, and once we have sorted the details, I will share them here should others wish to join us in this endeavor.

Selecting the perfect venue for a festival or rave is like finding a beat that resonates with the soul. It's not just about space; it's about creating an experience. The first step is understanding your audience—what vibe will captivate them? Is it the raw energy of an urban warehouse, the open freedom of a field, or the intimacy of a beachside spot? Consider the accessibility—easy transport options can make or break attendance. Then, there's the infrastructure. Do you have enough power for your beats and lights? Space for food and drink vendors? Crucially, acoustics can’t be an afterthought—your sound needs to pulse clearly, not get lost in the wind. And let’s not forget logistics like permits and security, ensuring your only surprise is the DJ’s encore track. Find a locale that amplifies your theme, resonates with your tribe, and has the facilities to bring your vision to life. The right venue is the heartbeat of your festival, setting the rhythm for an unforgettable experience. #FestivalVenue #RaveSpot #EventPlanning

Today I was thinking about The Detal (Just one of the most amazing Festival Project ever), and the newest and huge Festival in Brazil, made by the same entertainment’s company that makes the Rock In Rio. I heard and watched about the general structure scenic, scenic stage and the delivered by the sponsors. However and about that, nobody can say anything, it was just something surreal. It’s true. However if we start to talk about the planning for the operacional in the structure to attend the demanding of bathroom’s quantity, to the flow of people get in and a drink and food deivery, that wasn’t good at all. In my humble opinion, for the next edition, they should think better at the both first of all steps that we call: the begging planning and during planning (when it’s when had started to sell tickets), for don’t make those mistakes. In my humble opinion, for the next edition, they should think better at the both first of all steps that we call: the begging planning and during planning (when it had starting to sell tickets), for getting less chance to make those mistakes. Thoughts to make conclusion this. In the begging planning they supposed to know how biggest the event could be based at what kind the delivery they make. But in other hand, the during planning when they had started to sell more than they imaged, it was the time to re-organized the demands, Bringing the news informations and putting inside the project to make the perfect delivery. Real felling. Because of that, those little mistakes make us having a controversial thought about the stuffs that happened. It was something like a, delivering the best visual scenic with the best singers in the word and making the costumer being forgotten. One more time, sorry to every single worker partner to say that, but as I said, it is just my humble thought and opinion. #detal #events #concert #showbusiness #entertainment #eventproducer

Earlier this month at Eurosonic Noorderslag (ESNS), festival chiefs identified some of the key issues facing the festival sector today. 🌍 Supply chain issues “We have to invest and pay much more for the stuff that’s coming in. And that translates to ticket prices that are rising faster than inflation, which is already high – that’s what is the most worrying issue for me.” Eric Van Eerdenburg(Lowlands) 💰 Cost of living “The cost of hotels for the audience was maybe €100 per night, so for three nights practically, accommodation was ridiculous, which in the long term could kill the festival because it’s not sustainable.” Codruta Vulcu (ARTmania) 🎸 Booking international talent “It’s the international stadium acts that we have to look at as our headliners, which is also difficult when there are so many stadium tours happening. Stadium tours are definitely competitors for us during the summer.” Virag Csiszar (Sziget) As we fast approach the 2024 festival season, consumer ticket buying habits and pricing is a hot topic in our research. In unpredictable times, understanding your audience can help you find effective solutions that help your customers while protecting your business. That’s where we come in. Better data means better decisions. Thanks to Gordon Masson/IQ Magazine. (Full article in comments)
