Women are not just a vital part of the world; they are its heartbeat. Without women, the tapestry of life would lose its vibrancy and warmth, plunging into a state of desolation. It is through the empowerment of education that we unlock the boundless potential of women, enabling them to forge paths of change, innovation, and compassion. When we educate a woman, we illuminate a beacon of hope, strength, and transformation that radiates across communities and generations. By empowering young girl with knowledge, we are not merely changing the world; we are reimagining it as a place where equality thrives, dreams flourish, and the chains of limitation are shattered. Together, let's commit to empowering every young girl with the power of education, for in their success lies the blueprint for a world brimming with peace, prosperity, and unparalleled joy. --- May this message inspire action and continued support for the empowerment of young women through education. www.taata.org

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY. On this International Youth Day, Adore Women celebrates a powerful idea that resonates across cultures and generations - the significance of mentorship in shaping the journeys of young women. The impact of a guiding hand, a supportive voice, and a wealth of experience cannot be emphasized. We wholeheartedly endorse the notion that "We should all have mentors." This belief isn't just a statement; it's a philosophy that enriches lives, nurtures dreams, and paves the path to success. Read more: https://lnkd.in/daUG4-Pr

What an 'interesting' exercise to learn Dutch! And surprisingly, there were 'correct' answers 🤦♀️ Dear Centrum voor Levende Talen, Leuven / CLT language centre, perhaps it is time to reassess the content you are teaching instead of perpetuating gender stereotypes. Translation: 1. In general, women tend to be less skilled at reverse parking between two cars than men. 2. In general, men often don't hear when someone asks them something while they are watching TV. 3. Generally, women find it easier to find something in the fridge than men. 4. In general, women are quicker to notice when the baby is crying at night than men. 5. Overall, men are usually better at reading architectural plans than women. 6. Generally, women are quicker to notice when a colleague has been to the hairdresser than men. #GenderStereotypes #ZoGezegd_2_4 #CLT

Here are my notes from week 3. It talks about the negative expectations of African-American women that were created by society. It also discusses the phrase "Fixin Feet" and the importance for African-American women to live by it. The link to the notes is below: https://lnkd.in/grYCi87R What's interesting about the lecture, was that we didn't discuss the ways to fix society's views on African-American women, which is the opposite of previous lectures I get from classes that teach this topic. Instead, the discussion is on focusing on fixing yourself because society is not going to listen to you regardless. I personally don't know if we should completely give up on trying to fix society, but I see why it's important to focus on improving yourself first before doing that. Like the week 2 notes, there will be two free pages to sample prior to purchase.

According to the Final Report of the Parliamentary Committee on Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment, "research shows that there are no safe houses services in Simbu, New Ireland, Gulf, Central, Western and Hela Provinces. Many of the existing safe houses are being run by CSOs or the churches. The National Capital District has four safe houses, East Sepik Province has three safe houses, Morobe and Madang Provinces have two safe houses, and other provinces only have one safe house to service their entire population." Safehouses provide a place for survivors to take shelter when their lives are being threatened. Without these safehouses, the survivors have no choice but to return to their abusers, possibly risking their lives and their children's (if they have children). There needs to be funding allocated to building more safehouses throughout the country as well as crisis response services for survivors.
It is alarming to note that the Final Report of the Parliamentary Committee on Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment on their Inquiry into Gender Equality Policies & Institutions, Gender-Based Violence and Sorcery Accusation Related Violence has indicated that 9 out of 22 provinces in PNG failed to make oral and written submissions to the Committee on how they are addressing GBV and SARV issues in their provinces and how to address these issues as a country. The inactions of these provinces are an indication to their people and country on their stances on GBV and SARV issues. These provinces are Central, EHP, Gulf, Hela, Jiwaka, Madang, Simbu, SHP and WHP. The irony is that 2 of the 7 members of the Parliamentary Committee on Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment, that spearheaded this Inquiry, are from these 9 provinces that failed to make submission. They are Hon. Rufina Peter, MP (Governor for Central Province) and Hon. William Bando, MP (Koroba Lake Kopiago District). This Final Report can be accessed via https://lnkd.in/gGYxQfqb

Happy International Day of the Girl! Such an important day for honoring and recognizing the incredible contributions that girls make to every part of society while recognizing that they are disproportionately and devastatingly impacted by conflicts and disasters and often take on responsibilities and burdens beyond their years. I co-authored a blog for the day on the importance and impact of storytelling and educating girls in transforming harmful gender norms, using one of the Foundation’s amazing programs in Indonesia, Books as Bridges, as an example. You can read it here: https://lnkd.in/dKnSufft
