As you can clearly tell from this photo, I had an absolute blast at the #NAISUMMIT while #movingprivacyforward. Two days full of interesting and pragmatic discussion, opinions from some of our nation's most important regulators, and a really interesting panel on handling an election year while dealing with so many new privacy laws and incremental developments in #AI and #deepfake technology with Lauren McDermott, Mark Jablonowski, and Noga Rosenthal!

The U.S. Senate working group released a roadmap for AI, prioritizing innovation and guidance and recommending minimal explicit guardrails. It suggests heavy investment in AI innovation and legislative proposals for online protections and encourages exploring existing laws for high-risk AI use. The Illinois House passed legislation amending the state's biometric privacy law to limit damages, accruing only once when biometric data is collected or disclosed without consent. On #facialrecognition tech, we often focus on discrimination/false positives as potential harms (ex: #FTC recent action against Riteaid in its deployment for asset protection) but, as this research points out, privacy reviews also need to account for how and why the tech is being used/viewed as misused. The FTC’s expansion of its unfairness authority and state privacy law sensitive PI rules factor in too. Not quite the lawless space but certainly one that leans on the good judgment of in-house counsel and biz teams. Recent research in link below: https://lnkd.in/eKCwW6yQ. #privacylaws
