I just came across a JD from a leading product firm that is looking for a technical writer with: - Programming Knowledge Expertise - Familiar with coding standards - Proficient with AI/ML models - Team Management - Content Strategy and Information Architecture Experience - Automation - Database Management I am still confused if they are looking to hire a writer or a professional with supernatural abilities. No wonder that the market dynamics and hiring has changed drastically. Have you come across such JDs during your professional career? #jobdescriptions #unreal

If you are a superhero kind of technical content writer who loves doing solid research, doesn't give a damn to #chatgpt but rather puts even the subscription service of #chatgpt4 (with DALLE, browsing and analysis) to shame every time for generating content that lacks engagement and depth, when compared with your writing, you should find this interesting. Will AI replace #contentwriters? Not sure now.

Okay ... Who's the genius who came up with THIS job description? Sr. Technical Writer Duration: 2+ Months Disqualifiers  - Job hopping  - Best vs. Average - staying in positions for a long time Uh ... If you don't like "job-hopping", then damn it, consider posting a job that lasts longer than 2 months. In fact, give it a shot and HIRE the selected candidate as a staff tech writer and keep 'em around for a year or two. Who came up with the "metrics" estimate of "2 months"? That's not much time to assess a documentation job and then be able to get much done.

Tell us that your company is full of illiterates who write by throwing cats at the keyboard without actually saying “my company is full of illiterates who write by throwing cats at the keyboard”: the proliferation of technical writer job postings that are really seeking something else, but at tech writer rates. All of these are actual postings encountered in the past two weeks: Technical writer/project manager Technical writer/budget analyst Technical writer/C# developer Technical writer/aerospace engineer My favorite: Technical writer/bilingual paralegal Gee: maybe the last 40 years of crapping all over anyone studying the humanities, or at least overemphasizing a college career focusing only on what will get you a top job and forsaking everything else, didn’t work out as well as you thought.

The Mistake I made: . . . I used to think: if there's work, I'll do it myself to save costs. I was stressed and stuck. But then I hired a great writer, and I felt immediate relief. By hiring a talented content writer, I've freed up time and mental bandwidth to focus on higher-value tasks. This allows me to take on more projects without burning out. It's a win-win - the expert can do what they're best at, I have more time, and together we're able to accomplish more. P.S.- Sometimes the best investment is in another person, not just yourself.
