We all know Amazon is big, but did you know that during its two-day Prime sales event in July, it accounted for over a third of all time spent browsing online retail? Key stats on Amazon's online footprint: 📈 Amazon is the biggest online retail organisation in the UK, with 44m visitors in July 2023, more than ASDA and Tesco combined. 🕒 Time spent on Amazon's website or app accounts for 18% of all time visiting retail. 🎄 This peaks at 22% in December, before Christmas. 💻 On Amazon's July Prime Days, as much as 34% of all time visiting digital retail is to their storefront. The new Amazon.ie online store will feature a wide selection of products - including more from Irish businesses - with low, local prices, and without additional customs charges, plus customers will enjoy even faster deliveries and easier returns. Amazon has today announced that it will launch a new dedicated store in Ireland, Amazon.ie, in 2025, to enhance the retail experience for new and existing customers. While many people in Ireland already shop on Amazon stores in other countries, the new Ireland store will offer a localised shopping experience offering customers what they value most – a wide selection of over 100 million products, including even more from Irish businesses, low prices, and fast and convenient deliveries and returns. https://lnkd.in/eMb-kR9X

In the high-stakes world of e-commerce, Prime Day has evolved into a critical event that can make or break a brand’s annual performance. Has #AmazonPrimeDay lost its momentum? What was once the Super Bowl of e-commerce now feels like it’s plateaued. I came across this chart from Statista illustrating the gradual growth decline in Prime Day sales since its inception, which comes as a shock when you consider the number of Prime members grew from 150M in 2020 to over 200M the next year. Some possible causes for this slowdown: - Competitors like Walmart and Target have started their own deal campaigns to compete with the two-day Amazon event - Growing rumors online about Amazon inflating prices before Prime Day in order to increase sales It’s not all bad news, however — the first day of Prime Day marked the single biggest e-commerce day of 2024 so far, with over $7 billion spent across U.S. retailers, many of which were SMBs. Did you purchase anything during this year’s Amazon Prime event? Is the luster gone, or does it still bring the same excitement? #LITrendingTopic Emma W. Thorne

As Kiwi retailers watch the Aussie market, it’s impossible to ignore the elephant in the room… 🐘 Amazon’s impending arrival in New Zealand poses an undeniable threat to local retailers and it’s important to get a headstart. Amazon's winning formula is conquering the post-purchase journey. Retailers who can win in this space will come out on top, and there are some simple things to get sharp on to do so; 📊 Leverage data at a platform-level to show real-time inventory levels and delivery estimates 💸 Offer delivery choices at checkout, at price and service level by offering same day/on-demand alongside a standard/express offering 📱 Prioritise the customer experience with competitive delivery rates and transparent delivery communications 🤓 Understand and optimise your performance through insights and advanced analytics If we can learn anything from Bezos, the delivery experience has a direct correlation with customers’ likelihood to repeat purchase, and retailers with a loyal customer base will come out on top. Walmart is bringing back its members-only sale early and getting ahead of Amazon's annual Prime Day sale in July. Why it matters: It's the latest battle in the paid membership war and starts the summer shopping season early. Driving the news: Walmart+ Week will be June 17 to 23, which is longer than last year's summer sale that lasted four days and coincided with Prime Day. This year's sale goes beyond product deals, the retailer told Axios, and includes "seven days of deep discounts on gas, travel, and more." Between the lines: Amazon has not announced a date for Prime Day 2024 but has said it will be in July. Other retailers including Target, Best Buy and Kohl's usually run sales to compete with Prime Day.

It's a total misconception that Amazon deals don't work as well for high-ticket items. On Prime Day and throughout Q4, we have a ton of success running deals on products in the $600-$800 range... sometimes even higher. Consumers shop deals not because they can't afford high-ticket items, but because they are savvy. When they see an item that is normally $750 being listed for $649 or $599, they understand that they can get material savings if they are willing to speed up their decision-making process and buy today. For brands, that means promotional periods like Q4 offer a big opportunity to lock in sales and steal share away from competitors. Regardless of your price point, promotional strategy matters. #Amazon #Ecommerce #Q4

You wouldn't pay Safeway or Target for the privilege of shopping at their stores. But you probably don’t bat an eye when it comes to paying for an Amazon Prime membership, either. How are those things both possible? It’s a testament to the particular power of e-commerce. Costco generated $4.2 billion in membership revenue in 2022. Compare that to Amazon…which generated $35 billion in Prime membership revenue alone. Once a year, we all willingly put pen to paper and part with our cash just to have the privilege of shopping within their metaphorical walls. That’s bonkers. No other club has been able to reach such a significant scale - let alone one for which the benefit of belonging is entirely digital. Imagine paying eBay to be able to watch an auction. It’s an incredible achievement for Amazon to drive 9% QUARTERLY growth - even at this stage of its existence. Any other online retail company that can take a play from Amazon’s book certainly should.
