Connecting Employees to Purpose and Values at Purple

Have you ever heard the social psychology term "Norm of Reciprocity"? It comes from research in the 1960s that concluded that there exists a widespread tendency for individuals to reciprocate kindness. It is now considered a fundamental principle in understanding human interaction and relationship dynamics. And it's a tool I use every day - especially in the workplace. And you should too! Reciprocity is key to fostering a positive culture where kindness and mutual support can thrive. When practiced, it leads to empowered employees and successful organizations that harness innovation. Here are three easy things anyone can do to practice the norm of reciprocity: 1️⃣ Stop that colleague in the hall and tell them how much you appreciate their efforts. 2️⃣ Offer help when a team member faces a challenging obstacle. 3️⃣ Participate in an ERG or mentorship program and share your skills and expertise! I'm excited to be on the forefront of watching this live out every day at Purple. Join the kindness revolution and practice this at work!
