Yeah, I'm gonna need you to go ahead and work this weekend and every weekend...mmkay? A growing number of companies and even countries are embracing shorter four-day work weeks, and more workers are seeking better work-life balance. Yet in a galaxy very nearby, Samsung is bucking the trend by implementing a six-day work week for all of its executives. While underwhelming corporate results are behind the immediate change at the company, the move is aligned with South Korea, a country known for its intense work culture. This isn't the next big thing anyone wants. The notion that working extra hours results increases productivity has been proven to be false if not misguided. In the past, billionaires, investment experts and other industry gurus shout about the need for hustle culture and regularly working long hours. While that may increase their profits, overwork not only decreases productivity, but increases stress resulting in shorter life expectancy for workers. In fact, working more than 55 hours a week increases the risk of stroke by 35 percent and heart disease by 17 percent. In Samsung's case, executives across some of the company's divisions have already been voluntarily working six days a week since January before the mandatory policy went into effect. Considering the competition for smartphones and AI chips - two key areas for Samsung - is heating up, working the weekend looks to be the norm for the near and long future for its executives. When it comes to imagining the possibilities, Samsung may be facing executive burnout and turnover https://lnkd.in/grHAXuY2 #samsung #work #culture #stress #mentalhealth #workforce #productivity #hustleculture #southkorea

I'll go with 'New Coke' on this one. But it does point out the increasing disconnect between 'Sr. Management' and the Board, and their Employees. It's a good bet the CEO didn't run this by his head of PR, or any of his senior staff. The Asian mentality has always encouraged submission to authority. It keeps hugh numbers of people under firm control. Let's see how much Western individualism has infected the East. Or, "How Ya Gonna Keep 'em Down on the Farm (After They've Seen Paree?)"

Mmmkay? This is SO nutty ! This doesn’t only impact Samsung. It also affects all the food service workers and all the cafés. Unless C suite doesn’t eat!

Great info and agree that’s a bad decision. Hire better people that can get it done in 40 hours is much better and pay them the same as working 6 days a week. Work life balance.
