This was such an insightful podcast: https://lnkd.in/gEpE7bVT Consumer Internet product development gets so much attention, however, there are very few insights from the insiders who have faced the very tough challenges that comes along with it! "Building products that gets used by everyone around you and listening to opinions about it can be exhausting as well as exhilarating." Great nuggets of wisdom in the episode. Thanks Lenny Rachitsky for what you do! #productmanagement #consumerinternet

More management, more problems. Just look at early Facebook. Employees felt bogged down by endless meetings and a sense of disconnect. That’s a red flag for broken processes; if you lean too much on tactics, creativity takes a hit. To address these typical growing pains, early Facebook had to balance tactical and adaptive processes. The goal was to ensure fast feedback loops from users, which let them pivot fast and stay agile. In Episode 075, Lindsay McGregor, best-selling author and CEO of Vega Factor, addresses how startups need to balance structured processes with innovation. Back in my university days, I fondly remember analyzing business cases in classes, untangling real-life complex issues, and approaching them from various angles. A great way to build crucial business skills and develop a proper mindset. That's why the newly launched podcast "Unsolicited Feedback" by Brian Balfour and Fareed Mosavat is already shaping up to be one of my favorites. It carries the same sentiment, you get to be a fly on the wall listening in on worldwide growth and product professionals dissecting business moves, decisions, and launches happening at some of your favorite products. In their latest episode, they dive into Twitter/X's latest launches and YouTube shorts. Here are some key takeaways: → SaaS: "Cheaper but worse rarely wins, although free but worse can win." → The AI landscape is a lot like the early days of mobile apps. → When criticising Twitter/X people forget how many mistakes Facebook made its early stages such as Facebook Gifts or Facebook Credits. Everyone has a learning curve. → YouTube shorts might cannibalise Youtube's long-form videos, in turn leaving less space for ad placement. Does YouTube even have a choice though? I'm definitely tired of the interview podcast approach, I'm happy there's an alternative. I'll leave a link for it in the comments, tune in! #podcastrecommendation #businessinsights #productmanagement

This is a call to action❕️❕️ Netflix stumbled early in online video rental before realizing the only way to get a market in a pre-broadband era was to mail DVDs to customers. Twitter started in podcasting, nowhere close to social messaging at all. The reality is the perfect plan doesn't exist. or does it? Truth is they are so many factors you can't control and the worst part is they are ever changing. Hence it is key to execute your plan early, Get your product in the hands of the consumers see if anyone wants your core offering. Executing your plan early will allow you to sell the roadmap and vision that way you get to the destination with the right plan . The only way to learn what will work and whay wont is to put that plan in action

Twitter Chats (or "X Chats," I suppose, though that sounds like something else...) are becoming rarer and rarer. But I still love mine. As much as I enjoy interviewing guest experts on my Adweek Podcast, "Let's Talk About Brand," I also love hosting this thoughtful open discussion on each week's topic with anyone who feels like joining in. Today's #ChatAboutBrand ⏤the first following my usual August hiatus, and then this September's transatlantic move⏤will take place while I am on an airplane from London to Boston. I considered postponing it, or having someone else host in my stead. But I've missed it. So I'm paying for the wifi, and, assuming that it works, I will be there. I would love it if you were there, too. If you haven't deactivated your "X" account, I humbly invite you to join #ChatAboutBrand at 9 am PT/12 pm ET/5 pm BT (or whatever time that is where you are). It's easy to participate: - Follow the hashtag #ChatAboutBrand, and check my profile for the questions (they're rolled out steadily over the course of the hour). - To answer Question 1, include A1 in your response (and #ChatAboutBrand of course!), and so forth. - Check out other people's answers, too. Converse with them. It's a big, open, moderated conversation on branding. And I daresay it is glorious. Listening to the podcast first is great, but it's not required for the discussion⏤it's not a quiz on what the guest said. In fact, a lot of this week's conversation focuses on building a personal brand while employed, as Jack initially did (and as I'm speaking about at #MPB2B on Thursday), whereas the podcast is largely about how Jack grew from that place to eventual self-employment. I'm also often pleasantly surprised at how different interpretations of my questions take the discussion in different directions. Come shape the #ChatAboutBrand conversation. ❤️

Following my talk at Elevate, I sat down with Abi Noda to discuss the the evolution of developer productivity at Yelp. I've been lucky enough to be a part of this decade long journey as an intern, engineer, and director. Among other things, we touch on the impact of our monolith and where I see the group headed over the next few years. Check it out! #developerproductivity
Today’s podcast shares the journey of Yelp’s Engineering Effectiveness team over the past 10 years. Kent Wills joined me on the podcast to share: — how developer productivity work was getting done in the early days — how and when the team was formed — getting buy-in and funding for growing the team — what they’re doing today with LLMs Tune in: https://lnkd.in/gM7gR9J5
