Importing USD assets

The USD format, known as Universal Scene Description, is a new format that's intended to make data transfer a lot easier between 3D packages. Now, this format can get very rich and robust, and it can actually get a little bit complicated, but we're going to keep it simple. We'll just use one file. Now, one of the reasons you'll want to use USD format is because it supports more advanced materials. Now most renderers have gone to what are called PBR materials. That means Physically-Based Rendering. Older formats such as FBX don't support these new materials. So while FBX may be able to translate, say, a Phong or a Blinn material, it's not going to get a more advanced material. So that's one reason to use USD. Now, there are plenty of other reasons, but let's just again keep it simple and just use basic USD. Now, in order to use this in Unreal Engine, you will need to turn on the plugin. So go into Edit Plugins and just type in the letters USD and you should see a couple of plugins. USD…
