Define a group

- [Instructor] Keeping up with changes in your customer base is a full-time job. In this movie, I will show you how to handle a case where one customer acquires another and you want to combine their sales into a single account. My sample file is 07_01_Group, and you can find it in the chapter seven folder of the Exercise Files collection. In this workbook, I have business sales, and it's broken down by customer, and the scenario that I have in mind is that one customer might acquire another. For example, the Beeswax Incorporated company might acquire Beier Incorporated. So what I want to do is to combine the two of them into a single item. To do that, I need to create a group. The first thing to do is to select the two items that you want. So I will click Beeswax. And then hold down the Control key and click Beier. And then on the toolbar, I can click the Group Members button. So I'll go ahead and click that, it looks like a paperclip. And I'll click Customer Name, which will be the source of the grouping. So I'll click there and you can see that now I have Beeswax Incorporated and Beier Inc as part of a single item. And the total that I have for their sales is the total of the two items from before. So what I've done once again is to combine two different elements into one. So now for the purposes of my database, Beeswax Incorporated and Beier Incorporated are the same thing. When you're done with the selection, you can click away. And as soon as you click a single item and then click off of the visualization, the grouping highlight goes away and you can work with your data as before.
