Hub sites: The basics

Websites to the organizational method used in the modern SharePoint experience. So let's go look at the classic SharePoint experience first, so that you have an understanding of what hub sites replace. Because if your organization started with classic SharePoint, you probably have remnants of this structure still hanging around. In the past, organizations used subsites to organize their SharePoint sites, and it's because they didn't have a choice. All of the team sites were created in one site collection with a hierarchy of sites. So for example, under our team sites, we might have high-level sites, parent sites for each department, finance, manufacturing, human resources and IT. And then under those sites, we would have subsites or what we might think of as child sites that would include sites under or part of finance, under manufacturing, under human resources, under IT, and so on, and then so on for each department.
