From the course: Requirement-Driven Cloud Selection and Deployment

Intro to requirement-driven cloud selection

- [Instructor] So, keep in mind as we walk you through the journey of requirements-driven cloud selection that we're going to focus on the as-is state, and where you going to be? The to-be state. Typically with the addition of cloud solutions. We are just defining the as-is state as to understanding what our existing requirements are. Technology, business, performance, anything that we're going to use as a jumping-off point to make sure we're setting up the criteria for picking the proper cloud solutions. So ultimately, why do we care about requirements? Well, it really leads us to understanding what technology to leverage. We don't know what technology to pick unless we understand the reasons we're picking the technology. This ultimately leads to the configuration of the technology in the proper way. And that's architecture. Then also, ultimately, we're serving the business. Keep in mind that IT exists to automate the business to make the business better. So business requirements are a fundamental requirement that we need to consider before we pick our cloud solutions. So keep in mind we're going to stick with, really, the early stages of the process. Here is a complete cloud requirements gathering, selections processing, operations planning, selecting common services, doing skills gap analysis, doing the migration and doing the operation. So, we're not going to go through the complete cycle. We're going to focus on planning and assessment and we're going to focus on target solution planning. So keep that in mind. You can go at other places and find information about these other topics, but for us, we're going to focus just on requirements.
