- [Narrator] Once you're familiar with the layout of Power BI and the benefits of interactive dashboards, it can be rather tempting to go ahead and import data, then prepare some fancy visualizations. But hold up a moment, this is a little bit risky as if we don't lay some basic yet important foundations first, we may end up with some rather poor results. So let's take a look at the key ingredients needed to produce a high quality dashboard. Firstly, have a clear goal or goals. Why are you embarking on this adventure? Is it to improve sales or is it to improve staff productivity, or perhaps to reduce costs? Next, what visualizations or charts are going to help achieve this outcome? Historical trend of product sales perhaps. And finally, data. What type of data will you need and where will it be sourced from in practice? You may choose to develop a more comprehensive plan than this, but in my experience, they're all centered around these three basic building blocks. That is goals…
