PBR vs. Principled shader - MODO Tutorial
From the course: Modo 2019 Essential Training
PBR vs. Principled shader
- [Narrator] This video is going to be a short introduction to the material system in modo. The modo material is physically based and this means that it's easy to use for artists and to get realistic results straight out of the box. So what does it mean to say that a material is physically based? Well essentially, it means that you don't have to jump through hoops in order to get accurate reflectivity on your material. For example, in older 3D packages, and indeed in previous versions of modo, things such as fresnel reflections had to set up manually. So first of all, what are fresnel reflections? Fresnel reflections are the phenomena of reflections becoming stronger as the surface moves perpendicular to the eye of the camera. So what this means is, at a glancing angle, the surface becomes more reflective, as you can see here on the roof of the train, or indeed with these bright reflections at the top of the chimneys. And in the real world, all surfaces have these fresnel reflections…
