From the course: Midjourney: Tips and Techniques for Creating Images

Joining Midjourney and installing Discord

- [Instructor] In this video, we're going to set up what's necessary in order for you to begin prompting Inside of Midjourney, Midjourney is run through Discord. This, however, is changing very quickly. Midjourney has announced plans to provide you with the ability to create your text prompts and imagery on their website. Right now, certain users already have access to it, but you'll see, when we go over this in a future movie, that when you log into Midjourney.com, there is a section at the top called Imagine, which is currently shown as coming soon. This will also simplify the process of creating images by keeping this all within a website. And this course will be updated shortly after all users have access to this feature. So the first thing that we need to do is go to discord.com, and from here, you can download Discord to your computer. In my instance, my Mac. Alternatively, you can open Discord in your browser. You should note, if you have an iPhone, there's an iOS app for Discord as well, and you could prompt on the fly with your phone. So once that's in place, the next step is to launch Discord. And we would like to set up a registration. So click on register. You're going to want to enter in your email, a username, a password, and your date of birth. So I'll enter that information and once that's complete, let's click continue. Simply click on the I Am Human button, and then answer the corresponding question. Once you've verified, you're going to have to go check now your email and verify by email in order to use Discord. I'll join you back in here once that's complete. And once you are verified, you're going to see this screen here in Discord. Not quite ready for using Midjourney just yet 'cause we have to go and complete that second step. The second step involves going to Midjourney.com. And once you enter here, you're going to want to join the beta. And as long as you have Discord open up in the background with the email that you've registered for, we can accept this invite. Just like before, it's going to check to see that we're human. After it's done, it's going to accept your invite. And if you're running Discord like me as an app, you're going to have to ask it to allow you to send you there. Now that Midjourney is set up, you should be able to see a Midjourney server here on the left-hand side of the screen. It's that little sailboat icon. Once we've entered here, a great place to start is to go to the Getting Started channel. And by the way, there are several channels in Midjourney you'll become familiar with. They're identified with a hashtag. Now, when we create images, what we're going to want to do is use one of the newbie channels. You can see over here there are about three newcomer rooms that I can take advantage of. And by simply clicking on one of these channels, we'll already see Midjourney in action through the eyes of a bunch of users. And now that we're in this channel, we're going to get ready to create our first prompts in the next movie.
