Use percent complete to specify partial progress on a task. This is easy to do because Project gives you some great shortcut buttons to help you. I'm on the Task tab and here are my buttons. I can do 25%, 50%, and so on. You can select and they don't have to be items in order, or you can use the Ctrl key, mark whatever you would like. As I mentioned earlier, 0% is a reset if you update something by accident. Now, some people prefer the column. That's certainly okay. I could put 50% here and you can use all the wonderful shortcuts you know from Excel to copy, paste, or fill down. Now, as a reminder, percent complete assumes things are going according to schedule. Also, as a reminder, be sure you communicate with your team what you want them to think about when they tell you whether it's 25, 50, 75, or 100. Percent complete shows partial task progress with the value you set.
