Use project management skills and tools to deliver projects effectively and drive success in your organization. Many years ago, I worked with an inexperienced IT manager. He was assigned a critical project for the company upgrading the corporate phone system. For this organization they still operated with regular phone calls, speaking with customers every day, and they even had multiple receptionists to ensure clients talk to someone in person. Well, this is how the IT manager obtained a new phone system. He called a few vendors he found on the Internet, asked them to come in and do a demo, and then he just purchased one. It wasn't until the company came in to install the phone system that the true horror of this mistake came to light. He failed to research the company and didn't even realize that the employees coming in to install were actually laid off due to a corporate merger.
