Assign cost resources to tasks

Cost resources allow you to enter a specific value that can be used for variable costs. The first example I want to show you is Task 12. We're going to assume we're outsourcing some of this work to a vendor, and they've given us a firm fixed price or a fixed price contract for that task. And this time for assigned resources, I'll use the assigned resources dialogue. And just to make it more convenient, let me move this around a little bit, and they're alphabetical order, let me assign the vendor. Now, the cost is zero, but that's because this is a cost resource. As a reminder, you enter the value. So if they've quoted us $2,000, I just type that in and that's the cost to the task. As you can see, Project augments the name with the cost. Let's do this again and I'll go down to Row 17. In this example, the author has to travel to the book fair, so let's find the travel cost resource, do an assignment, and, again, the cost can be added.
