Understanding different types of hypervisors

- [Instructor] The next piece of terminology I'd like to talk about is the word Hypervisor. A Hypervisor is a piece of computer software, firmware, or hardware that creates and runs virtual machines. Any software or hardware that is designed to create and run virtual machines is a Hypervisor. You may notice that some vendors, when they name their product, they use the word Hypervisor or some abbreviation of that. The term Hypervisor is meant to be just a generic term that doesn't apply to any particular vendor. When running a Hypervisor, we will have one machine called the host, which is an actual physical server that runs the Hypervisor software. On that host, we will have one or more guest machines. Each guest machine is a virtual machine that does not exist physically. It only exists in the memory of the Hypervisor.
