- Now it's time to connect our new virtual machine to a network. In order to do that we'll first need to create a virtual switch. So here inside of Hyper V Manager, all the way to the right, I'll go to Virtual Switch Manager and we have the option to create a virtual switch. Either external, internal, or private. An external one would allow us to connect to the outside network and the internet. An internal one is used to connect between the virtual machines and the host computer. A private virtual switch just allows virtual machines to talk to other virtual machines. For this one I would like internet access, so I'm going to have to go, external. I'll click on Create Virtual Switch. It came up with the default name of New Virtual Switch. That's not very descriptive so I'm going to change the name to External One. And it's asking which of the physical network adapters in the host machine I would like to…
