From the course: Learning Revit 2025

What is Revit?

- [Presenter] What is Revit? Who would benefit from understanding how to use it and how do I get it? If you're brand new to Revit. These are common questions. In this, in the next few videos, I will review what Revit is, how to get it, and important information about its files and file formats. Now, if you're already familiar with these things and you already know what Revit is, you can feel free to skip the remaining videos in this chapter, but getting a refresher is always helpful as well. So just what is Revit? Revit is a software application for the design, documentation and delivery of buildings. Virtually, anyone involved in the design and construction of buildings can benefit from using Revit. Revit is a product from the software company Autodesk, and it's available as a standalone desktop application, or as part of a larger collection of tools called the Autodesk AEC Collection. Revit is purpose-built for building information modeling or BIM. BIM is a process used by architects and others responsible for building designs that incorporates all pertinent building design data in a single, accessible, and always current data source. With tools for architectural design, interiors, building engineering, structural design, construction, and even fabrication. Revit is the premier tool for building design creation within the AEC or architecture, engineering, and construction industry. For those only interested in architectural design, there is also a limited version of Revit available, suitable for sole practitioners and small teams. This version is called Revit LT. A comparison tool is available at autodesk.com where you can see the differences between Revit, the AEC collection and Revit LT. You can purchase these products directly from autodesk.com or through a value added reseller.
