- Have you ever started at a company and wondered when you'll receive a paycheck, or what you're making? If so, you're not alone. When you start a new position it's not commonly discussed exactly how you will be paid. If you received an offer letter, it may say something like biweekly, semi-monthly, or weekly, but what does that even mean? Lexie is an IT support technician at a small nonprofit organization with about 28 employees in Palo Alto, California. She was told that she'll be a full-time employee and make minimum wage. She looked up the minimum wage in California and found that it was actually $15 an hour, but since she was in L.A. County the minimum wage was even higher at 16.04 per hour. Now she's really confused. She also has no idea when she'll receive a paycheck.
