- In our interaction with generative AI tools, the quality of outcomes is dependent on the provided prompts. So what exactly are prompts? Prompts are instructions, input, or cues provided to generative AI tools to guide it in generating the desired output. Generative AI is not magic, there must be a bridge between ideas and creation. Prompt engineering is the art and science of crafting effective prompts for generative AI tools. Throughout this course, we explore different types of prompts and how to combine them effectively. Prompts can be categorized in several ways. There are open-ended prompts with a starting point, like write an email draft. There are closed-ended prompts with more specific instruction, like, write an email draft to schedule a meeting. In contrast, some prompts are about function.
