How generative AI can be used by candidates in recruiting

- What do you think of job applicants using ChatGPT to write the resumes and cover letters? On one hand, it may seem unethical, but on the other hand, why shouldn't people use every tool available to them? Job seekers can use Gen AI for much more than resume writing. So let's take a look at some of these tools to get you thinking about how you might need to change your recruitment processes. You may want to consider using Gen AI in your website's job search functionality. Job seekers often use basic searches of a single title or a couple of words, which may not return all of the best matching jobs you have to offer. Because Gen AI understands the meaning of words, even basic searches become powerful and inclusive, returning the most relevant jobs available. When it comes to resumes and cover letters, using ChatGPT or other Gen AI tools isn't really much different than using the services of professional resume writers, which have been around for decades. As long as the content is accurate and not fabricated, there really shouldn't be an issue. However, where there can be an issue is the fact that, depending on your talent acquisition process, people may be able to use ChatGPT and other solutions to complete your online screening questions and assessments, including reading comprehension, problem-solving, and coding. Keep in mind that ChatGPT has passed the CPA, the bar, US Medical, and Wharton Business School exams, so you may want to examine your processes for this risk and think about making appropriate changes. You should also be aware that tools that claim to be able to detect AI-generated text are not very reliable, being prone to false positives and false negatives. So you may want to consider proctored or live screening assessments. Job seekers can also make use of Gen AI solutions to help them prepare for interviews. For example, you can enter an entire job description into ChatGPT and ask it to generate 20 likely interview questions, ideal responses for each, and suggestions for how to best prepare for the interview. Now, I'm not sure how you feel about that, but you could simply view it as a smart way to use the latest technology to help give you the best possible chance of being selected for a job. Someone could either pay an interview coach, or they could use Gen AI. And now let's remember that the interview process isn't about assessing how well someone interviews, but how well someone is suited for the job. It's common for applicants to use the tools available to them, and Gen AI solutions provide people with unprecedented abilities. Be sure to review and evaluate your recruitment processes and make appropriate changes to reduce or eliminate the risk of unethical behavior. Always validate the authenticity of the information provided by applicants and candidates to create fair and equitable experiences and outcomes, and to make informed decisions during your talent acquisition process.
