Each software comes with the burden of various vulnerabilities that need to be addressed individually. Systematic tracking is critical to minimize the impact of an obscure vulnerability being exploited and leading to a major security incident. Effective vulnerability management follows a process. The very first step of a typical vulnerability management process is to develop vulnerability management policies. Next is to discover the actual vulnerabilities. The discovered vulnerabilities then need to be analyzed and prioritized according to their risks. Higher priority vulnerabilities are mediated first, and some vulnerabilities are simply documented and not mediated at all due to their relatively low risks.
