- One of the simplest yet most effective proactive retention tools I've ever given my clients is what I call the pick three process. Let me explain how it works. Pick three is simple. Every day, you and your team engage in three simple tasks related to customer retention. Now, you might call three new clients or maybe you'll reach out to three lost clients. Perhaps you'll send three handwritten notes or maybe even send three unexpected gifts to your top clients. That's it, three tasks, all of which should take an average of 15 minutes to complete. Now, you might be thinking, this seems pretty simplistic and it is, but this is where you take advantage of the power of compound interest. If we can get an entire division or an entire company engaged in these daily tasks, the results are often incredible. So we have a task every single day for everyone taking part.
