- Styles in Word are the magic glue that connects content in Word to the tag that will be applied to that content in the exported PDF file. Let's take a look at how to use, apply, and modify styles in Word for success when exporting to an accessible PDF file. What I'm going to do here is I'm going to scroll down a little bit until we get to some of the headings in my document. And we already have our styles task pane open over here to the right. And what I'm going to do is I'm going to click in this text here that says, section one introduction. And when I do that, you're going to see that the heading 1 style is selected, indicating that that style is applied to that content. Now, if I change the style, for example, if I choose something like Body Text, you could see that it's formatting that text as the style is defined.
