- [Instructor] I'd like to talk for a minute about accessibility standards. Standards are important as they give us a target to shoot for and ensures that everyone is trying to achieve the same goal. Without standards, it's a bit like the Wild West with everybody doing their own thing. If you're old enough to remember the World Wide Web, what it was like back in the early 1990s, you'll appreciate that reference. Now, in this course, we're focusing on making PDF documents accessible. We'll be focused on the current standards that apply to the accessible PDF format. The first standard, which is WCAG is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines produced by the World Wide Web consortium and is widely recognized standard for PDF as well as web accessibility.
