- So who are these gatekeepers? If you've never heard of a gatekeeper before, they're incredibly crucial people in the sale process. And if you imagine you were approaching a castle, they're the person who stood at the front gate, in armor, holding a spear. They're the person who you need to speak to to then get access to the castle. Majority of the time when you'll be encountering them, they'll be receptionists or assistants, they'll be working the switchboard, they'll be colleagues, but the main thing to remember is that you, yourself, are one as well. If you're answering a call for a colleague and you can tell that it's a sales call, then you're ultimately a gatekeeper. You're deciding do I like this person, do I think it'll be worth it, will I get in trouble for passing it through? So the main thing to remember is it's their job to stop you.
