- [Instructor] Identity and access management, also referred to as IAM, encompasses the technologies that manages the permission and access for users in various cloud resources. Identity and access management ensures the right identities get access to the right resources. In a traditional on-premise IT environment, network perimeter, that is the boundary between an organizational internal network and the internet, is the first line of defense. However, in the cloud, data is stored with a third party and accessed over the internet. Because users can connect to the internet from virtually any location, identity and access management becomes the first line of defense and is considered one of the most important security controls.
