From the course: Cloud Management with Microsoft Intune

Configuration Manager features

- [Instructor] What is System Center Configuration Manager? Well, it was originally part of the System Center Suite, but it's now part of Microsoft Intune, and it can manage all different types of devices that we refer to as endpoint. An endpoint is where data is delivered to, rather than where it's provided from. So for instance, a desktop, a laptop, those are endpoints. A server would be a place where you have shared resources or applications. And Configuration Manager can link to cloud services. Originally, before there were cloud services, it was simply an on-premises product, but now it's co-managed with Microsoft Intune. With increasing speed of updates in Windows, Apple, and Android, Chrome and Linux, your management solution is going to need to be able to keep up as well. Updates and servicing notes in Configuration Manager console provides more frequent and easier-to-apply updates for new features, as well as extensions for Microsoft Intune and fixes. Configuration Manager provides application delivery that allows administrators to create one application that can be delivered to all of a user's devices. It then evaluates device and network capabilities, and it'll optimize delivery, whether through it's a local installation, streaming through App-V, or through a presentation server, such as remote desktop services, remote app capability or Citrix. Integration with Intune provides a single administrative console for managing policies and comprehensive asset and compliance reporting across PCs as well as mobile devices, and it can upgrade operating systems as well. So instead of just installing applications or doing updates, it can upgrade an operating system when they're available. Configuration Manager simplifies the task of managing updates to endpoints. IT administrators can deliver updates of Microsoft products, third party applications, drivers, bios, or UEFI updates to a variety of devices, including desktops, laptops, servers, and mobile devices. Endpoint protection through Configuration Manager provides endpoint protection to all different types of devices as well. It delivers a single solution for malware protection, identification, and remediation. Compliance can be achieved through policies and configurations based on your vertical market. Configuration Manager can display client health, evaluation results, and client activities directly in the console providing alerting and remediation capabilities if health statistics fall below established thresholds. Administrators can have continuous visibility into hardware and software assets and usage. Asset intelligence is going to translate inventory data into information that will be useful to you as the IT administrator. It provides rich reporting that helps administrators with software purchasing decisions, upgrade plans, and licensing. Reporting in Configuration Manager helps you gather, organize, and present information about users' hardware and software inventory as well as software updates and applications. Having a complete vision of all of Configuration Manager's capabilities can help you discover what's important about Configuration Manager for your business needs.
