Securing wireless networks

- One of the major responsibilities of IT professionals is to secure wireless networks to protect the traffic they carry from eavesdropping attacks and to protect the network itself from unauthorized access. There are a few best practices that you can follow to protect your wireless networks. Each wireless network has a name that identifies it to users. This name is what you see on your phone or laptop when you're choosing the network that you'd like to use. The technical term for this name is the service set identifier or SSID. By default, wireless networks advertise themselves to potential users by broadcasting their SSID, telling everyone in the local area that the network is available and accepting connections. If you don't want to advertise your network, you can disable SSID broadcasting, hiding the network from users who don't already know that it's there.
