- When you were interviewing for your role in business development, you were probably asked what domain expertise you are bringing. Domain expertise refers to any field, industry, or subject matter in which you have specialized knowledge. To have domain expertise, you probably studied or worked in a role that focused on that specific area. You might have domain expertise in a particular industry, like manufacturing, or with a particular functional area, like accounting, or a particular type of deal structure, like mergers. And, of course, if you've worked at your organization for a long time, your domain expertise might lie within your company itself. You might be an expert on how your company works.
