Creating your first material in Blender
- [Instructor] A material is a simple component inside a Blender that tells the rendering engine, "This object looks like this." It allows you to specify the color and value with just a few clicks. And one of the cool things that you can do is have multiple materials on a single object. Let me show you. Here's our awesome space fighter. I've taken it from chapter two and added a few upgrades. Now, let's go ahead and drop our first material onto it. Come down to the bottom right and click on this beach ball. You might see one of two things. by default, many objects in Blender, when they're first made, have a material right here. But many do not. And you might see something like this. If everything is blank, go ahead and click on New. I'm going to undo that real quick though because I already have a material here.
