Understand what Curves can do like no other color corrector
In this lesson, I'll show you how to use Curves where you might use Levels for color matching. It allows you to do some natural, loose, and quick color work. I'm going to try to make these two skateboards more or less match one another, allowing for some of the differences in detail between them. Like the red versus the white wheels, and the blue versus silver trucks. If I work on the board as a whole, it doesn't really matter what color correction I apply, Curves or Levels. I'm going to run into a problem immediately. Now, here's Curves. And a classic adjustment to make with Curves is to increase contrast with what's known as an S curve, and, so, this retains the gamma running right through the midpoint here but increases contrast in both the blacks and the whites and leaves the end black and white point right where they are. That's the opposite of what I want here, so I'll just Reset. And do the exact opposite type of Curve, lifting the gamma in the blacks, lowering it in the…
