Understanding media types

- Whether we're talking about images, interactives, audio, or video content, we need to follow a decision making process to determine how we'll make that content accessible. Here's how we normally break content down into groups. First, some types of media content that is considered informational, this is what we call content that is important in and of its own right, where important information is contained in that image, video, or audio. This kind of content needs a text equivalent. Here's some familiar examples of that type of content. The image of the T-shirt on the product page, that likely needs a small description of the T-shirt to go with the information that's conveyed visually. Or think of the podcast. If there is no text based equivalent for the audio file, the content is just outright missing for people with certain disabilities.
