- Designers also need to take care when choosing their color palettes for their work. Ensuring that there's enough color contrast between the foreground and background is important. Remember Sean, our persona with low vision? Because of his low vision, he has difficulty detecting the differences between colors that are too similar. There are lots of color combinations that just don't work well from a contrast perspective. Let's step into the lab and try a few combinations out. The first tool is Lea Verou's contrast checker. The second tool is Jonathan Snook's checker, which includes sliders to allow you to easily nudge colors in different directions to find combinations that work. The key is to understand that too little difference in the colors means that you can't tell the difference between them.
