- When was the last time you saw an animation or motion on the web? There's a good chance it was within the last day or two. Animation and motion techniques are becoming more popular, as they create engagement and a sense of excitement in our designs. They can be used in very functional ways, too, to attract attention. When you attempt to log into a site like icloud.com or use Stripe Checkout to pay for something online, the entire login form will shake when you enter incorrect information. It's a subtle way of getting your attention to say, "Hey, something went wrong." Many sites also use large animated background images or videos as a way of pulling you into the interface. Parallax effects are used to create a sense of depth in interfaces. You'll see it when you're scrolling down a screen and it looks like a photo is actually behind the surface of the page, because the page and the photo are moving at slightly…
