TITLE: Work-Based Learning Coordinator

LOCATION: Central Office and Training Center

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students and 60+ different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. KCKPS is home to Sumner Academy, the #6 highest rated High School in the Nation and #1 High School in Kansas according to the US News rankings.

With Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 56% Hispanic, 24% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian. To serve our students, the district employs approximately 4,000 employees including more than 1,800 teachers.

Job Goal

WBL Coordinator will cultivate positive and productive relationships with employer, community, and civic networks and partners to ensure a steady supply of quality Real World Learning experiences for students and staff. The job of the CTE WBL Coordinator is expected to assist teachers and students with career pathways, participate in career pathways activities and assist in the promotion and execution of school-wide career, life, college readiness events. Support Diploma + initiatives and the District Continuous Improvement Plan that results in the achievement of the district's indicators of success.

Essential Functions

Relationship Development and Management:

  • Serves as a district liaison to regional real-world learning and workforce development network partners to ensure best practice engagement with employers and equitable student access to a diverse set of employer and community experiences.
  • Communicates regularly with internal and external stakeholders to set expectations, understand needs and opportunities, and identify and address issues and barriers to ensure students engage in and benefit from learning activities.
  • Coordinates with community leaders and organizations to build resources and expand program capabilities.
  • Partners with district staff and regional partners to identify opportunities to integrate real-world learning into the curriculum and facilitate student exploration, engagement, Application-level pathway course, Diploma+ goals, and Market Value Assets.
  • Serve along with the CTE Coordinator as liaison for Pathway area advisory committees and works cooperatively with committee members to ensure partnerships and enrichment activities are aligned with district initiatives.

Stakeholder Preparation And Quality Assurance

  • Provide support to assigned CTE Pathways regarding career and technical education curriculum, staff development, instruction, and assessment.
  • Develop and deliver resources and training to district staff, students, and partners to ensure quality work-based learning experiences (NOTE: may include direct classroom teaching and facilitating)
  • Maintains communication with KSDE curriculum representatives regarding standards, assessments practices, and state career and technical education initiatives.
  • Confers with teachers, parents, students, and business/community partners to evaluate individual student progress and the development of the overall system to ensure students earn market value assets while in high school.
  • Participate in professional organizations, disseminate information to other professionals, represent the district professionally and positively.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing staff development for CTE pathways and programs.
  • Supports CTE student organization (CTSOs) sponsors to provide support and share information as needed.
  • Work with the CTE Coach to facilitate sessions to develop real-world learning curriculum opportunities.
  • Assists in coordinating with community leaders and organizations to build resources and expand program capabilities.
  • Develops and monitors the internal district processes and practices needed to ensure student readiness for real-world learning opportunities.

Marketing and Communications (School/Community Relations)

  • Prepares a variety of documents, reports, and written materials for the purpose of communicating information to parents, staff, and business/community partners.
  • Assists in developing and evaluating the effectiveness of training, resource materials, and other communication materials to ensure they meet the intended purpose and serve district needs.

Operations

  • Supports the CTE Coordinator in developing and implementing annual grant budgets.
  • Assist CTE Coordinator in planning and coordinating Career and Technical Education programs.
  • Analyze critical needs in assigned CTE areas and work collaboratively to implement and improve programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years effective teaching experience preferred in a career and technical education position.
  • Master's Degree in Education or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing multi-faceted projects.
  • Demonstrated skills and history of professional development facilitation and training.
  • Demonstrates skill and expertise in the use of existing technology in the performance of duties.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Communication

Maintains communication with teachers, other school personnel to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students. Maintains confidentiality regarding educational records.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.

While performing the duties of the job the employee occasionally may visit a child's home. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

Organization

Maintains a daily log of school/staff/community partner visits and documentation. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties. Performs other related work as required.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a 261 day position.

SALARY: Based on KCKPS Salary Schedule

FLSA: EXEMPT

REPORTS TO: Director of Diploma+
