The scenic designer works with the director to establish a visual concept for the production and design of the stage setting section of the stage space, incorporating all elements, front elevations of every scenic piece, and additional elevations or sections of units as required.

Duties And Responsibilities

Collaborates with the artistic director and production team to understand the vision and requirements for each build.
Creates detailed and innovative scenic designs that enhance the storytelling and emotional impact of the scenic elements.
Produces sketches, scale models, and digital renderings to effectively communicate design concepts.
Selects appropriate materials, props, and furnishings for the scenic design.
Constructs and installs set pieces, ensuring they meet safety and functionality standards.
Paints and finishes all scenic elements, including priming, texturing, sculpting, and applying scenic details.
Maintains and performs in a safe workplace and follows established safety practices.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED
Some related experience
Skilled In
Carpentry, scenic building, and scenic painting
Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management
Ability To
Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations, and take responsibility for a high level of service
Use a variety hand and power tools, machines and equipment
Work Environment And Physical Demand
