Pacific International has been retained by a high-growth organization in the industrial engineering space. As they have an aggressive growth strategy for the business, they are on a transformational journey to establish clear process, strategy and capabilities across their organization. As a part of the journey, they are looking to bring in a Supply Chain Leader to mature the Supply Chain organization.
The Supply Chain Leader is a key member of the operations team and is responsible for the overall strategy and execution of companies’ supply chain and inventory management operations, which includes Purchasing, Strategic Sourcing, and Inventory Management. The Supply Chain Leader will lead the effort for alternate sourcing, material forecasting, supply agreement/contact negotiations, supply chain planning, and inventory management.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience leading supply chain teams in a manufacturing environment, and be proactive, detail oriented, agile, with a disposition towards continuous improvement. Organizational planning, employee development, and fostering a winning, inclusive, and can-do culture are important aspects and expectations of the Director of Supply Chain. Responsibilities include ensuring material planning and delivery support a 24/7/365 manufacturing operation, onsite inventory management of purchased items, ensuring company receives the best overall value (cost, lead-time, quality, and terms) for purchased items, and development of a robust and supply base (domestic and international) to mitigate risk and maximize flexibility.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop and execute company’s overall supply chain strategy.
- Provide overall leadership and management to the Supply Chain Team consisting of Purchasing, Strategic Sourcing, and Inventory Management. Serve as subject matter expert for the supply chain team cross-functionally.
- Lead alternate sourcing activities to ensure security of supply; Drive cost reduction and material savings without reducing quality or performance.
- Lead strategic sourcing activities for both domestic and international suppliers, including identification and development of new suppliers for materials including metal/sheet metal, weldments, castings (ferrous and non-ferrous), hardware, injection molded polymers, composite resin system constituents (bulk resin, catalysts, fillers, etc.), fiberglass reinforcement (glass fiber roving’s, mats, etc.), among other miscellaneous components.
- Lead negotiations with suppliers on supply agreements and terms ensuring that company receives the best possible value (cost, lead-time, quality, and terms); Take primary responsibility for escalation and resolution of purchasing related issues.
- Ensure continuous (24/7/365) manufacturing operations through ownership and management of the Material Resource Planning (MRP) function; Determine necessary order quantities and delivery timing considering current inventory levels.
- Support quality, including ISO audits, supplier audits, and Supplier Corrective Action Response (SCAR) activities.
- Measure supplier performance through supplier scorecard.
- Drive continuous improvement within the department; Document and standardize processes and procedures to ensure consistency.
- Support non-manufacturing purchasing requests, including supplies, Maintenance, R&D, and Office, among others.
Skills And Qualifications
- Four-year bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, engineering, or related field; An advanced degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience, and increasing responsibility, in supply chain management, global procurement, and contract negotiations.
- Minimum of 5 years leading and managing supply chain teams at a manufacturer.
- Experience with managing onsite purchased material inventory.
- Experience negotiating with suppliers for best overall price, delivery, availability, and terms; Track-record of cost savings of purchased items without reducing quality.
- Proficiency with ERP and MRP NetSuite experience preferred.
- Experience working with engineering drawings, specifications, Bills of Materials, and other engineering documentation. Experience with engineering change order (ECO) process.
- Experience buying and managing shelf-life limited constituent chemical materials, such as resin, fillers, and catalyst in truck-load quantities.
- Experience with buying and managing fabricated sheet metal parts, weldments, castings (e.g aluminum), injection molded components, and associated tooling is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access. Advanced Excel skills are highly desirable.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system, including experience with ISO process audits.
- Track-record of problem solving and continuous improvement; Formal training/certification in structured problem solving and continuous improvement (e.g., Lean/Six Sigma) is desired.
- Generally, process oriented with ability to use judgement as to when deviation from the standard process is appropriate.
- Experience with budgeting, cost analysis and financial forecasting.
- Experience with sourcing for new product development (NPD) and/or R&D activities.
