Student Ministries Pastor/Director - Grand Junction, CO

This is a full-time (40-50 hours per week), salary position with health and retirement benefits. Salary commensurate with experience.

River of Life will use the term “pastor” for this position if and when a staff member meets elder qualifications and is appointed as an elder.

Purpose of the Position

  • To model and build a Great Commandment/Great Commission lifestyle among students, grades 6-12.
  • To make disciples within our Middle School and High School ministries.
  • To equip parents of students.
  • To serve as a teammate with River of Life staff and volunteer teams to fulfill the mission of River of Life.

Qualifications For The Position

  • A mature Christian modeling I Timothy 3:1-7 (Elder qualities) and Galatians 5:22,23 (Fruit of the Spirit) character.
  • A passion for youth ministry and an ability to relate well to students and their parents.
  • Understand and agree with a ministry philosophy that involves equipping parents.
  • Proven ability to recruit and lead an adult volunteer staff to work with youth.
  • Effective in teaching God's Word, connecting with students and administrating Student Ministries.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to use technology applicable to youth and church ministry (social media, office, ProPresenter, Planning Center, livestream).
  • Licensed or willing to be licensed by The Christian and Missionary Alliance. (see https://madcma.org/steps-to-getting-licensed/ for more information)
  • Agreement with Christian & Missionary Alliance doctrine and mission.
  • Prior youth ministry experience preferred.
  • Willing to complete River of Life church membership in the first month of employment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and oversee the ministry to River of Life’s Middle School and High School students producing disciples who make disciples.
  • Provide weekly ministries for River of Life’s Middle School and High School students. (During the interim, MS and HS meet all-together on Wednesday evenings.)
  • Coordinate and supervise youth activities (i.e. Fall GJ missions trip, winter/spring retreat, summer camps, outreach events, service events, Belong events, etc.)
  • Provide an extended, stretching missions/LIFE/camp trip opportunity each year.
  • Primarily focus on in-reach, developing student disciples who do outreach.
  • Create “incentive and greater depth” for students as they get older. (i.e. mentoring of younger, more events and privileges, leadership roles, etc.)
  • Equip the next generation for service by training and providing service opportunities or events within River of Life and the community.
  • Oversee, recruit and train staff and adult volunteers, providing regular volunteer meetings and training opportunities in support of ministry goals.
  • Provide counseling with students and with parents of students, when needed.
  • Provide oversight, training and ongoing development of our youth worship team.
  • Coordinate 2-3 parent training events per year.
  • Collaborate with River of Life Kid’s Ministry Director so that there is a seamless philosophy of ministry among children and youth.
  • Collaborate and serve with all of River of Life’s ministry staff in executing the River of Life mission.
  • Participate in Sunday morning responsibilities as assigned: Connect, livestream, service, etc.
  • Participate in pulpit supply when requested.
  • Participate in staff meetings and pastoral functions as assigned by the Lead Pastor.
  • Attend and serve at “all-church” events.
  • Attend weekly staff meeting.

Relationships

  • Reports to the Lead Pastor and River of Life Elders. (One elder is assigned to Youth Ministry.)
  • Relates to and coordinates with other ministry staff and volunteers.
