School Summary:

South Carolina Connections Academy (SCCA) is a tuition-free, K–12 online public school. The school was launched in 2008–09 under contract to the South Carolina Connections Academy Charter School. SCCA is South Carolina’s very first virtual charter school, authorized by the Charter Institute at Erskine The school serves students in grades K–12 from anywhere in South Carolina.

Position Summary

The Math Specialist plays a pivotal role in promoting math proficiency and fostering a positive attitude towards math among students, teachers, and parents. They are responsible for collaborating with teams across the school in implementing strategies to enhance math instruction, supporting teachers in developing effective assessment and intervention practices, and researching evidence-based practices to enhance student achievement in math.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with school leadership, math department colleagues, and other stakeholders to develop and implement a shared vision for mathematics education.
  • Work collaboratively with instructional coaches and Learning Support teachers to support math instruction in resource classrooms.
  • Participate in professional learning communities and committees focused on improving math instruction and student outcomes.
  • Provide ongoing professional development sessions for teachers to enhance their pedagogical skills in teaching mathematics.
  • Lead workshops and training sessions on best practices in math instruction, differentiation, and assessment.
  • Analyze student assessment data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for growth in mathematical proficiency, including needs of various subgroups, namely disabled students and students in poverty)
  • Utilize assessment data to inform instructional decision-making and develop targeted interventions for individual students or groups.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to co-plan, model, and co-teach math lessons that incorporate research-based instructional strategies.
  • Provide support and resources to teachers to differentiate instruction and address the needs of diverse learners.
  • Design and implement targeted interventions and support services to help struggling students improve their mathematical skills and confidence.
  • Manage and maintain a collection of math resources, manipulatives, and technology tools to support teaching and learning.
  • Stay informed about current research, trends, and best practices in mathematics education to inform decision-making and resource selection

Requirements

  • South Carolina Professional Educator License with Math certification
  • School leadership experience desired
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a professional and courteous demeanor.
  • Proficiency in office software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Chat).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in handling sensitive information.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel
